With the power of bonds shall control the land!' Tokugawa Ieyasu is a character who had his first major role in Sengoku BASARA 3. In Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes, Tokugawa Ieyasu along with his loyal general Honda Tadakatsu by his side, sought to conquer the land. However, due to him being a child he wasn't taken serious by the other warlords.
Ieyasu usually wound up fighting in Oda Nobunaga's army. After Nobunaga was killed by Akechi Mitsuhide and Mitsuhide was killed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the latter began conquering the land. Ieyasu surrendered to Hideyoshi and became one of his generals. In Sengoku Basara 3, Ieyasu is now an adult and leads the Eastern Army against Mitsunari, who hates him for Hideyoshi's death. Ieyasu wishes to unite the country with his power of bonds.
I will not forgive you!' Ishida Mitsunari is a character introduced in Sengoku BASARA 3. He is one of the main characters, alongside Tokugawa Ieyasu. Mitsunari was a loyal retainer of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. However, when former friend Tokugawa Ieyasu revolted and killed Hideyoshi, Mitsunari's heart became filled with hatred and he vowed to exterminate Ieyasu in revenge. Mitsunari gathered an army, including the likes of Sanada Yukimura and Ōtani Yoshitsugu. Mitsunari fights using his katana with an Iai-style that delivers swift death.
'The One-Eyed Dragon is not just for show, you see?' 'Put ya guns on!' In the anime Masamune is portrayed as the energetic and fearless young ruler of the Date Clan. He is known by the nickname Dokuganryū (One-Eyed Dragon). Middle-long brown hair, a black eye-patch, an uncommon and original blue suit and a classical helmet with a golden crescent moon at top of it is how Masamune has been drawn in the anime, respecting each detail from the game.
Another curious thing to mention is his horse: it truly recalls a motorcycle, because it's equipped by real modern handlebars coming out from the mane and an exhaust pipe on the back. He tends to speak a mixture of English and Japanese and the way he and his men are shown seems to resemble a Yakuza Clan (due to some hairstyles, way of talking and other details). Date Masamune is presented as a cocky and ambitious warlord, usually wielding a single Katana, though when fighting seriously he can use up to six swords at once (three in each hand, held between the fingers). His six swords gain the nickname 'Dragon's claws'. While energetic and optimistic on the battlefield, outside of it he is rather quiet, mild, and thoughtful. He discusses plans and difficulties openly with his men and often weighs the counsel of his second in command, Kojūrō Katakura, before making major decisions. This personality contrast adds to his character's appeal, preventing the forming of a single, unchanging personality.
In addition, his loyalty to his men is unmistakable; he has shown more than once to deeply care for all of them, especially for his right hand Kojūrō. Despite his rivalry with the young Sanada Yukimura, the two have a deep respect for each other and will also form an alliance in order to take down the Devil King Oda Nobunaga. ~I did it.I did it, Noble House Looooorrrddd!!!!!~ Yukimura is one of the poster boys for this series, along with Date Masamune. His hot-blooded and 'battle-crazy' character contrasts strongly with the Oushuu's head cool demeanor.
In Yukimura's life battle is everything. His master and revered idol, Takeda Shingen, is the commander of one of the strongest armies of the Sengoku. Shingen's method of educating Yukimura consists of punching him and giving him life lessons (always with battle metaphors).
Probably because of this, Yukimura is incredibly naive and completely ignorant of anything related to the opposite sex, leading him to be made fun of by Maeda Keiji, cringe in horror at the Maedas' lovey-dovey antics, and have humorous conversations with his ninja subordinate, the lazy and aloof captain of the Sanada Ten Braves, Sarutobi Sasuke. Yukimura's way of fighting is 100% 'frontal', one-on-one, with no tricks or cheating.
His ideal is to walk the path of the warrior, and constantly searches for new possibilities to test his skills (preferrably by battling Date Masamune), all the while supporting his master's goal to enter the capital and conquer the country. It is revealed in Yukimura's blue path in Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes that despite Shingen being one of the more powerful leaders in the country, financially speaking the Takeda army is completely broke. !!
Honda Tadakatsu is depicted as a huge robot. More specifically, his intro sequences are very much like launch sequences from the Gundam series although his method of getting around the battlefield is more akin to a Dom of the same series. Due to this, he gets a nickname among fans as 'Hondam'. Being a robot/Gundam, Tadakatsu cannot speak, but rather he makes mechanical sounds for his responses (if not actions). This robotic appearance somewhat reflects his title of being the Strongest of the Sengoku. He is a very loyal retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and considered his 'ace'/best fighter. He always appears to the aid of his lord (it is even reflected in Ieyasu's skillset in Sengoku BASARA 2 Heroes, where he calls upon Tadakatsu to ride on and attack).
As such, he would always follow Ieyasu's orders (usually to attack the enemy). Whenever he appears in battles, as much as possible, he keeps true to his title defeating nearly every enemy he faces, or proving to be a great challenge to them. However, when the battle turns to the favor of the enemy, he is very much willing to sacrifice himself to protect/save his lord. Death's destination is spreading, thriving.
How auspicious. Yoshitsugu appears as a friend and ally to Ishida Mitsunari. Due to Mitsunari sometimes being blinded by his hatred towards Tokugawa Ieyasu, Yoshitsugu often takes control over the Western Army for him. Appearance wise, Yoshitsugu is completely wrapped in bandages to portray a trait in which he is historically famous for, his leprosy. His design also reflects his dark personality, wanting the world to share the same pain he has suffered. His helmet also sports design elements of the Ōtani crest, with butterfly-esque traits and his armor has a skeletal appearance to it, giving him a even more sinister appeal. He also rides a floating palanquin, again, to covey across his illness and his historical counter part.
His palanquin isn't the only thing that mysteriously floats, as he uses several magical orbs to attack his foes. The orbs can grow in size, as seen in his Basara, and have a wide attack radius. Yoshitsugu is depicted as one of the more tragic characters of the series, and his misguided ambitions come across as 'evil'. Because of his disease, he was constantly ridiculed and shunned.
Seeing the great battle of Sekigahara as a way to take his revenge and share his misfortune with the world, he takes up his weapon and joins up with Mitsunari, leader of the Western army, for the approaching campaigns for the land. 'The Demon in the island of demons is me!' Chosokabe Motochika is a character that has appeared in all Sengoku BASARA games, but only as a playable character after Sengoku BASARA. Chōsokabe Motochika is depicted as a pirate leader who likes adventuring.
Rather than conquering the land, he prefers exploring through islands, searching for treasures. He also cares much about his underlings that they are becoming affectionate of their leader, and so he is called 兄貴 Aniki (Big brother) by them. Motochika was a pirate leader and the lord of the island Shikoku. He strongly opposed anyone who tried to conquer his lands. He also had various fights and a rivalry with Mouri Motonari.
After Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the conqueror of the land, was killed by Tokugawa Ieyasu, Shikoku was attacked by the latter. Ieyasu succesfully conquered the island and Motochika had to flee. Motonari adviced Motochika to join forces with Ishida Mitsunari, the biggest enemy of Ieyasu. Motochika took this advice and joined with Mitsunari. Weapon Motochika fights with an anchor-tipped spear which can be shot and pulled back.

Brb download. 'Soldiers and such are after all disposable pawns.' Mōri Motonari is a character introduced in Sengoku BASARA, and is first playable in the following installment. He is depicted as a young, genius daimyo who only cares about winning. He will use any strategies that can lead him to victory, including those that sacrifice his soldiers, without any hesitation. To reflect this personality, his attacks in the game can also hit his own allies, though no actual damage is dealt. Motonari also has a belief in the Sun (which he calls 日輪 Nichirin), and he tends to refer to himself as 日輪の申し子 'Child of the Sun'.
He has a fierce rivalry with Chousokabe Motochika of Shikoku, whose personality is the opposite of him. He returns in Sengoku BASARA 3, allied with Ishida Mitsunari against the Tokugawa Army. Saika Magoichi (Sayaka, as she is refered to by Chosokabe Motochika) is a character newly featured in Sengoku BASARA 3. She was the leader of the proud Saika renegades. When the Ishida and Tokugawa armies divided Japan, she joined the Tokugawa ranks as a general. Under Tokugawa's wings, she fought the Uesugi army, which included Maeda Keiji. Keiji fell in love with Magoichi, though unfortunately for him, love didn't go the other way around.
It seems as though her real name is Sayaka, and that she took the name 'Magoichi' some time after the real Magoichi Saika was killed. Maeda Keiji is a character first introduced in Sengoku Basara 2. He is Maeda Toshiie's and Matsu's adopted nephew, and occasionally fights with them, but also loves his family. He has a mysterious past with Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Takenaka Hanbei which was touched on in Sengoku BASARA 2 Heroes. Keiji is what people call a happy-go-lucky man.
He enjoys festivals, as well as pulling pranks at Toshiie. Despite his demeanor towards his step-family, he loves them though shows resentment at them due to their objection to his lifestyle. Accompanying him is a small monkey named Yumekichi. He receives a three stage gaiden in Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes, where he used to be friends with Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but loses him due to Hideyoshi's lust for power. In Sengoku Basara 3, after the death of his former friend Hideyoshi, Keiji joined the ranks of the Uesugi army. He spent his time flirting with the female Saika Magoichi along the way. He is also can be unlocked as both a playable character and as an ally.
Finish Date Masamune's story to unlock him as a playable character. Defeat Uesugi Kenshin using Saica Magoichi to unlock him as an ally. As an ally, he has a special ability: Damageproof, which reduce damage taken from enemies by 20%. Kuroda Kanbei was a vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. During this time however, he was secretly waiting for a chance to take the country himself.
Due to the rebellion of Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hideyoshi was killed, and Ishida Mitsunari, another general under Hideyoshi's command, took it upon himself to chase and imprison Kanbei due to his motives. Kanbei, being noted as a top strategist, possessed a great mind, but was also cursed with horrendous bad luck. He seemed to cherish his dream and was determined to fufill it, thus, as the conflict dividing the Land drew closer, Kanbei broke out of his cell and tried to continue to make his dream come true. However, his motives are immediately found out by Yoshitsugu and Motonari, and he is forced to serve under them as a vassal to the Western Army, or he would be imprisoned once again.
After fighting their battles for them, Kanbei flies into a fit of rage and attacks Motonari to become a free man, but with Motonari being the craftier of the two, he explains that Kanbei cannot be free until he rids himself of his shackles, telling him that Yoshitsugu holds the key on his person. With that newfound knowledge, Kanbei rushes to the battle between the Western Army and Eastern Army at Sekigahara to take back the key from Yoshitsugu, but he ends up getting caught up in the heat of the battle and ends up defeating everyone, including Yoshitsugu, Honda Tadakatsu, Ieyasu, and Mitsunari. When he is about to obtain the key, a hawk swoops down and steals it from him, forcing him to live a life of bad luck for all eternity. 'Everyone's dying. This is also Ichi's fault.'
Oichi is a character first playable in Sengoku BASARA 2 Heroes. She is depicted as a slender woman who is very melancholic and depressed, always thinking that everything is her fault. She was at first sent by her brother, Oda Nobunaga, to marry Azai Nagamasa and spy on him. However, she genuinely fell in love with him and was torn between betraying her brother and her lover. After witnessing her husband's death at the of hands of Nobunaga and then being forced to fight on in Nobunaga's name, she slowly started to lose her sanity.
In the end, she succumbs to her own dark powers, which leads her to kill Nobunaga's retainers (Nōhime and Ranmaru) and eventually Nobunaga himself. After killing her brother in Honnō-ji, Oichi regains her sanity for a little while, then breaks down in tears at her atrocity to her family and clan. The temple collapses and she's presumed dead afterwards. She's often considered as the most tragic character of Sengoku Basara.
Oichi inexplicably returned in Sengoku Basara 3 having lost her memories after suppressing the pain of witnessing Nagamasa's death and being forced to do cruelties under Nobunaga's name in the past. Rather than bearing the Azai crest, she now uses the Oda crest. In her Red route, she joins Ieyasu - Lord Happy - because he's nice to her and wants to always be there for her, and fights for him, despite his asking her to stay behind. She chooses to kill Mitsunari - Lord Grumpy - to save him from the 'hole in his heart'. In her Green route, she follows a voice, leading to a battle with either Tenkai or Kobayakawa. Fighting Tenkai makes him admit that he lured Oichi to him, with the desire to ressurect Nobunaga.
This transfers her to the Purple Route, where Tenkai is killed by Nobunaga, and Oichi then defeats the repeatedly ressurecting Nobunaga, capturing him, and dragging them both down to the depths of hell, claiming it to be the purpose she now lives for. Also if you do her level as Tsuruhime, Oichi calls her Ranmaru for most of the level because both characters used a bow as a weapon. In Sengoku Basara 2 Oichi is the only character with a unique ending sequence; her image song, 'Nemure Hi no Hana', which is sung by Mamiko Noto, her own seiyuu. Her theme would return in the fallowing title Sengoku Basara 3, though as a Piano Arrangement. And due to the game being released outside of japan, as Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, her theme received an official English translation: 'Sleep Scarlet Flower'.
